Spider Vein Treatment (Sclerotherapy)
Spider veins are small, dilated superficial skin veins which commonly appear on the thighs and lower legs. While they don’t typically cause any discomfort, they can be obvious and seen as unattractive. Spider veins affect 70% of all women and 30% of all men. At Bold & Co. Medical Aesthetics, we offer a quick and simple solution to treating these unsightly veins. Our nurse injects these veins with a special solution, which causes the spider veins to collapse and fade with time.

How long until I see results?
You will see results from sclerotherapy in just a few weeks. Treated veins will continue to improve for up to 8 weeks. Often veins will look the same or slightly worse after treatment before they start to disappear. Sometimes a second treatment is required for desired results. On occasion, there will be veins that are resistant to treatment. These may need to be evaluated with an ultrasound for a better understanding of your circulation.
What will happen during my treatment?
When you arrive for your appointment, you will be taken into a treatment room. After a thorough review of your medical history, our nurse will assess the areas to be treated, take several photos and a treatment plan will be created. This appointment will take anywhere between 30-60 minutes, depending on the severity of your spider veins. Before you leave, we will review discharge instructions and schedule a follow up visit.
Is this treatment painful?
There is some discomfort associated with this treatment. A very tiny insulin syringe is used to make these injections as comfortable as possible. Post treatment pain is rare, but you may experience a dull burning sensation and itching to the treated areas.
What are the risks and complications?
Complications for injectable sclerotherapy are uncommon. They can include bruising, inflammation, pigmentation changes, allergic reaction to the treatment solution, and very rarely ulceration.
Do I need compression stockings?
Yes, you must wear compression stockings after this treatment. Please bring them to your appointment so we may apply them once the treatment is complete.
